Confidence and Nudging Reality

by Mike Sententia on February 24, 2010

I’m writing instructions for the first physical effect I ever did: numbing an injury, instantly and dramatically. It was the first time I was sure I did an effect right, that I was sure I was good at magick.

The effect is moderately useful. There are easier ways to numb yourself. Like ice, or aspirin.

But nudging reality with your mind, moving it far enough to know that you did. That’s incredibly valuable.

Sometimes it’s good to know how confident you really are. Just for yourself, to be honest inside your head. I look at my daydreams: how close they are to what I might actually do in a few months. How close they are to hopes instead of fantasies. It tells me how much I’m living in reality instead of escaping it.

Before learning numbing, I would fantasize about dramatic, impossible magick. Hollywood magic. Role playing game magic.

After learning numbing, my daydreams became realistic. This week I’m daydreaming about a business helping people heal their unconscious minds.

Numbing doesn’t matter. Any obvious physical effect will do.

But numbing is a good one. I’ll write about the technique tomorrow(ish).

Update: Here’s the technique.
